Sambro Area Community Association
The Sambro & Area Community Association (“SACA”) was formed to organize and run the annual Sambro Sou’Wester Days, a festival celebrating the rich history of Sambro and our Sambro Island Lighthouse.

Held the weekend after the Natal Day weekend in August, it’s a long time favourite which draws an ever-increasing crowd from near and far each year. We love to see old friends come home to reconnect, as well as meet new friends who are just discovering our little corner of paradise. Check out our News tab for more info!

SACA has expanded to run other events such as raffles, children’s movie nights, community breakfasts, and the Shay & McKay Annual Fishing Derby which raises money for a J.L. Ilsley scholarship.
We've also recently become a committed affiliate of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. The Sambro Imagination Library, once sufficient funds are raised, will be mailing brand new age appropriate books out for up to 120 enrolled children in the Sambro Ketch Harbour Elementary School's catchment area. You can help by making a charitable donation HERE which will benefit children in our own community.

In 2018, we consolidated with the Lionheart Society, combining resources to create a strong, effective and cohesive group working towards a better community.

SACA’s long-term goal is to build and maintain a full-service community centre for the area. This will be a great space for local clubs, groups, and individuals for events such as weddings, birthday and anniversary parties, meetings, health and wellness services, support groups, classes of all types, local business expos and more, and will include the option for licensed events.

We’re also working on building a mobility accessible fishing wharf and picnic area at Grand Lake.
Having our own permanent building would also mean the success of our annual Sou’Wester Days Festival would be less weather dependent, which is always a risk in Nova Scotia!

SACA sends out newsletters from time to time to let folks know about upcoming 50/50 draws and other fundraisers and upcoming events.
